3 March marks World Wildlife Day. Under this year’s theme « Sustaining all life on earth » CITES Secretariat within the framework of the Geneva Environment Network organizes the panel discussion « Biodiversity loss, wildlife, people and sustainable use ». Starting at 9.30, at Palais des Nations, the panel will be followed by a film screening. National Geographic magazine photographer, Ami Vitale took this image of Kamara nuzzled by Kilifi, an orphaned black rhino. Kamara hand-raised Kilifi, spending 12 hours every day watching over him at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya. Vitale says that « in just 2 generations this animal was poached almost to extinction. These communities and people like Kamara hold the key to saving Africa's great animals. »
