"Last April Cecilia Cannon was among the many Graduate Institute professors and researchers who went to San Francisco to contribute to the 2018 Annual Convention of the International Studies Association (ISA), which was centred around "Power of Rules and Rule of Power". What is going on this summer at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue?
Our mediation and dialogue work continues around the calendar. We have key processes on the Middle East, Sudan and elsewhere rolling through the summer. However, thanks to the beautiful Villa Plantamour, which houses the HD Centre and is located by the Lac Léman in the Park Mon Repos, we will still very much enjoy the summer!

After a career in bilateral diplomacy and frontline missions as well as multilateral diplomacy in Brussels, Ambassador Julian Braithwaite, freshly appointed Head of the UK Mission to the UN and other international organisations, is now settling in Geneva. He can count on an extensive experience and will lead a team of 50. During the induction phase, traveling to West Africa, he could see by himself how Geneva-based organisations were working in the field to fight against the Ebola outbreak.

Tell us about UN-Water: why has a platform of this kind been created, what is its mandate, and how does it operate?
UN-Water is the coordination mechanism of the United Nations for all matters relating to water. It was set up in 2003, at the instigation of the Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), to establish or strengthen collaboration between agencies on certain key topics, such as freshwater resources and water and sanitation services, among others.

First founded as an information department of the UN in 1995, IRIN became a fully independent media organization in 2015. It is one of only a handful of newsrooms in the world specializing in the coverage of crises and disasters, as well as reporting on the aid industry.

The Commonwealth is present in Geneva through its Permanent Delegation to the United Nations.
